Kiwanis Park

The 125-acre park was purchased in 1972 with a 50 percent grant from the City’s Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. It was named for the Kiwanis Club which helped to sponsor the project.

It includes playgrounds, a 12-acre lake, a batting range, an indoor recreation center with an indoor wave pool featuring water slides and 3-foot waves, a 15-court tennis center, and ramadas. Read on to know more.

The Cloud Splash Park

In a city where summer temperatures often soar to 100 degrees, kids love keeping cool at community splash parks and playgrounds. Kiwanis Park in Tempe recently added a 5,000-square-foot water play structure called The Cloud that kids and parents can enjoy.

One of the design features of The Cloud, according to Wagner, is that shade structures cover almost all of the water features, shielding children from the summer sun. This makes the splash pad more enjoyable for everyone.

The splash pad also features misting sprays and a unique thunderstorm sequence. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., April through October. Be sure to bring sunscreen. The 125-acre park is also home to picnic areas, four softball fields, a recreation center, a gymnasium and batting range, and 15 lighted tennis courts.

The Kiwanis Recreation Center

The 125-acre Tempe park is a popular spot for family-oriented activities including kayak and pedal boat rentals on Kiwanis Lake, playgrounds, sports fields, batting cages, and the Cloud Splash Park. Other facilities include two large corporate picnic areas, 15 ramadas, an indoor recreation center, and a full-size gymnasium with classrooms.

The park also features a children’s playground, sports fields, and the Kiwanis Recreation Center, which houses an indoor wave pool, gym, fitness center, classrooms, and a 15-court tennis facility.

With more than 30 renovation projects under their belts, city park employees are noticing how these upgrades are improving patrons’ overall experiences at Tempe parks. Wagner says they are concentrating on improving both active and passive activities within each park. In addition, they are focusing on improving safety and accessibility.

Softball Fields

Known as one of the best Tempe parks, this park features baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, horseshoes, and ramadas. It also hosts numerous Ironman races and community festivals throughout the year.
